Description:

The Swiss 20 Franc Gold Coin contains .1866 Troy oz of .900 fine gold. Colloquially called the 'Swiss Miss,' 'Helvetia Head' or 'Vreneli,' this 21.6 Karat Gold coin is popular with collectors the world over for its beautiful modeling and historical significance.

Struck by the Swissmint, this distinctive coin has a face value of 20 francs, a diameter of 21 mm, a thickness of 1.25mm and a weight of .1866 Troy oz. The Swiss 20 Franc Gold Coin was originally minted between 1897-1936, then again in 1947 and 1949, so random years are available.

he obverse of this coin shows Helvetia, the female national personification of Switzerland, designed in 1895 by Fritz Ulysse Landry of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, whose signature, "F. Landry" can just be seen towards the bottom edge of the coin. Helvetia is also a reference to the official Latin name for Switzerland: Confœderatio Helvetica.

It was a tradition of the Swissmint to use Latin on their coins to avoid confusion or cause offense, given the number of languages uses in the Swiss cantons. The reverse of the coin shows the Swiss shield, featuring the Swiss Cross, and a wreath of oak along with the denomination of 20 francs, the year of issue and a 'B' denoting it was struck by the Swissmint in Berne. The edge of the coin features a design of stars in relief.
