Designs of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Coin

Shown on the reverse of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park coin is a design emblematic of the national park located on the big island of Hawaii. It depicts an eruption on the east rift of Kilauea Volcano which is located within the park’s boundaries. The design by Charles L. Vickers is surrounded by the inscriptions of HAWAI’I VOLCANOES, HAWAII, 2012.

The obverse of each America the Beautiful related coin contains the same portrait. It features a likeness of the first President of the United States, George Washington. The portrait was originally created by John Flanagan for use on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has, with minor variations, been featured on quarters ever since. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
