Each gold coin contains .9675 Troy oz of gold. The reverse of the coin shows the iconic bald eagle in flight with "United States of America" and the denomination "Twenty Dollars" above. The obverse is a depiction of Lady Liberty walking with rays of sunshine at her back, holding a torch in one hand, and an olive branch in the other. The edge of the coin has inscribed the motto "E Pluribus Unum."
The Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coins were minted in Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
