Description

Description:

The railroads, the Brooklyn Bridge, early skyscrapers and the Statue of Liberty – they were all constructed during the period this coin was in circulation. It’s a coin that embraces a huge span of history. The $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle, produced from 1840 until 1907, could have been present at any number of historic events. From the rise of the west to America’s emergence as an industrial power, from the civil wars years to the reconstruction era, this coin was circulated throughout a time which saw great change. Now you can be a part of this coin’s fascinating history if you buy it today.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse side shows a profile portrait of Lady Liberty, wearing a coronet decorated with the word LIBERTY. Her hair is bundled up at the back and embellished with a string of beads, though some tendrils escape tumbling down her neck. Her left facing portrait is surrounded by 13 six-pointed stars denoting the original colonies of the Union. The year of issue is shown below the portrait, however, your order will be fulfilled with a piece from a random year. The obverse design is completed by a dentilled rim.

The reverse design is dominated by an eagle, shown facing to its right, clutching arrows and an olive branch symbolizing America’s commitment to peace but ability to defend itself. The eagle’s wings are displayed, stretching so wide they almost touch the dentilled rim. In front of the majestic-looking bird is a union shield. The country of issue, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, curves around the majority of the reverse side, separated only by the tips of the eagle’s wings. There is a just enough room left for the face value of 2½D, and the coin is completed with a reeded edge. The reverse design is inspired by the Great Seal of the United States, and it also owes a debt to the earlier work of John Reich.

Liberty Gold Quarter Eagles were struck at the Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans and San Francisco mints. So, on some coins, you’ll see a C, D, O, or S mintmark situated above the value and below the eagle. Your coin will be from a random and common year of issue, so it is not likely to carry a mintmark, but it will always have a mint state of 65, making it a coin of note. This MS65 coin is uncirculated and will have a strike that is at least average or sharper for the issue. This is a coin with a luster that is better than average, so it could be a keynote coin for your collection. The Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle is highly sought after in so high a mint state, so secure it today.

Given its long history, and the different mints that struck the coin, there are over 150 different issues of the Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle to collect, so buy this piece today to improve your collection.
