History:
The American Gold Eagle is an official bullion coin of the United States. One year after the Gold Bullion Coin Act in 1985, which stated that any gold used for these bullion coins must come from the United States, the Gold Eagle was introduced. Since then it has become one of the most popular bullion choices for investors of precious metals and seasoned coin collectors alike. American coinage has long featured imagery that encapsulates the United States' rich history, and this $10 Gold American Eagle Bullion is no different as it features the famous and widely used imagery of Lady Liberty and the bald eagle.

Augustus Saint- Gaudens is considered one of the most famous American coin designers. Personally chosen by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 to beautify the look of the country’s coinage, his first designs appeared in 1907 on the $20 Gold Double Eagle. This is the same design as seen on this Gold American Eagle, depicting a full-length Lady Liberty surrounded by the sun’s rays with the Capitol building at her feet. She holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, a representation of peace. Gaudens' original design was updated three times in its history. Due to an act of Congress, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was added, and in 1912 the previous 46 stars depicted was increased to 48 to mark the addition of New Mexico and Arizona. Differing from the Gold Double Eagle, the American Gold Eagle was updated to feature 50 stars which recognized the addition of Hawaii and Alaska to the Union after World War II.

The reverse of all Gold American Eagle coins features the image of a bald eagle holding an olive branch flying home to his nest. This side also contains the coins purity, value, and the initials of the designer, Miley Busiek. Both the mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are engraved on this side.

These $10 Gold American Eagle coins are the modern day version of those that were used for everyday purchases in the 19th and early 20th century. Due to high demand from those looking to invest in their wealth, the U.S. Mint produces more of these coins every year in a number of different sizes including the 1/10 of an ounce ($5 face value), the 1/4 of an ounce ($10 face value), the 1/2 an ounce ($25 face value) and the one ounce ($50 face value). All of these sizes are guaranteed by the U.S. Government to contain the stated amount of actual gold weight in troy ounces.
