  • Recognized around the world and highly desirable silver coin
  • The obverse of these beautiful coins features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by radial lines with the inscriptions “Queen ELIZABETH II,” “5 DOLLARS,” and the year minted. The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) operates under the Royal Canadian Mint Act and is a Crown corporation of Canada. RCM produces all of the circulation coins for Canada as well as circulation coins for other countries as well. In addition to coins intended for circulation, RCM produces collector coins in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. In addition, the Royal Canadian Mint offers refinery and assay services for both gold and silver.

The Royal Mint in London was responsible for manufacturing the currency for Canada during the first 50 years of Canadian coinage. Because of an increased need for coinage as Canada became a nation in itself, the Canadian Mint was authorized to be built in Ottawa in 1901. It officially opened in 1908 as the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint.

During the Great Depression the Ottawa Mint became independent from the British Royal Mint. The Ottawa Mint was renamed the Royal Canadian Mint in 1931. The Canadian government reorganized the RCM as a Crown corporation in 1969, meaning the RCM would act like a corporation and expected to realize a profit from conducting business.

The core mandate of the RCM is to produce, manage, and distribute the circulation coinage of Canada. Up to two billion Canadian coins meant for circulation have been produced at the RCM facility in Winnipeg. The RCM produces many types of circulation and numismatic coins. In addition, RCM has the ability to produce over 2 billion coins, either blanks or circulation, per year for foreign governments. In 2010, RCM sold out of 25 collector coins.

In 2012, RCM decided to end production of pennies with the final penny minted in Winnipeg on May 4, 2012. RCM is also responsible for MintChip, a digital currency backed by the Canadian government.

Silver Maple Leaf coins can be added to self-directed IRAs and provide investors with the tax benefits associated with an IRA. Each of the 2016 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins in this product listing has a Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Orders of 25 Silver Canadian Maples will come in an unopened mint tube. Orders of 500 Silver Canadian Maples will come in a sealed mint box.

I like how you can use electronic check. No need to mail a check. Free shipping on orders over $250 was great! 1 of the maple leaves had some milk spots on it but I had a special cloth that cleaned it right off making it perfect again. I would do business again. (Posted on 6/4/2014)
