U.S. Mint to issue special 2013 American Buffalo gold coin honoring 100 year anniversary

June 6, 2013 -- The U.S. Mint has confirmed a special pressing of the 2013 American Buffalo gold coin in order to honor a 100-year old design. The celebrated design of the 2013 American Buffalo gold coin was created 100 years ago by James Earle Fraser for the Buffalo nickel issued in 1913. Fraser's work featured a Native American and an American bison. Since 2006, a modification of Fraser’s original design has been utilized by the U.S. Mint for its American Buffalo gold bullion coins.
